Phantasia in Prince Edward County

Jayne Finn and Mike Evans, creators of the Gone Sailing DVD series, write:

Phantasia, our Niagara 35, is back in Lake Ontario after 6 seasons of sailing through Quebec, The Maritime Provinces, New England and New York. After so many seasons away the “to do” list of repair, replace and refinish tasks is substantial: from a complete rebuild of our 3 blade Max Pro, installing a new Racor 500 filter system, new holding tank, to wiring in a mast mounted foghorn/PA speaker.

Our next destination will be back out the St Lawrence, this time to Newfoundland, so the foghorn device seems like a no-brainer.

Anyone with an older boat will recognize the Wilcox Crittenden “Imperial 51″ head that Jayne did a complete rebuild and repaint for. These devices are bronze and can easily last the lifetime of your boat so worth the effort of refurbishing. Having used other newer models on other boats, the decision to rebuild was an easy one.

2012 PECC Launch

2012 PECC Launch

We launched the boat at our new home at Prince Edward Cruising Club, in Picton, on May 13th (Mike’s mom came with us, what a way to celebrate Mother’s Day!) We were delighted to find a berth at PECC so we will be able to explore the Thousand Islands and the east end of Lake Ontario this summer. Maybe we’ll see you there!
